Preschool General Information
Days and Hours of the Preschool
Makiki Christian Church Preschool accepts three to five year old children into the program. Children need to be three years old by December 31st of the enrolling school year.
MCC Preschool begins the school year in early August and ends with an Aloha Program in late May. We also offer an 8-week summer session during June and July for continuing students.
For new students, Summer school enrollment (June & July) is contingent upon the Fall acceptance of the preschooler.
The preschool operates a five day a week program from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Special drop off hours from 7:00 a.m. may be arranged.
Admission Requirements
- STUDENT’S HEALTH RECORD. The state law requires every child entering school to have a student’s health record (Department of Health Form 14). Parents should submit a completed Form 14 on the first day of school. This form is available through your doctor’s office.
- TUBERCULIN TEST and immunizations must be performed within one year of enrollment in our preschool.
- BIRTH DATE. Verification of birth date must be made by a birth certificate or other document.
- TOILET TRAINING. Children enrolled at MCCP need to be completely toilet trained. If the new applicant is not toilet trained by orientation and the first day of school, enrollment will be deferred and the child will placed back on the wait list. Our preschool staff shall assist children whenever occasional accidents occur. Please keep extra clothing in the child's cubbies at all times.
- APPLICATION FORM. Complete information must be provided on the forms of the preschool. Signatures must be affixed where required.
First Day of School Reminders
- Help your child to attend school regularly. Please sign in and out daily.
- Help your child to arrive on time. Classroom time begins at 8:00 a.m.
- See that your child has enough sleep and a nutritious breakfast.
- Give your child time to adjust. Please be patient; some children do not adjust readily to new situations.
- Make your good-byes brief in the mornings and don’t be alarmed if your child cries.
- Label all of your child’s belongings.
- Keep extra clothing in your child’s cubby at all times.
- If your child must be absent for any reason, please call the preschool on the first day of absence.
Things which should not be brought to school:
- Expensive jewelry/toys and other precious things
- Money
- Candy, gum, and other sugary sweet treats
- Peanut products due to allergies (peanut butter sandwiches & crackers)
- Any item your child would not want lost, taken or shared with others
Procedure for Drop-off and Pick-up of Children
- Take your child to his/her classroom, and sign in daily. The preschool will not release your child to any person(s) other than those authorized to pick up your child. Notify the office should any changes occur regarding the pick up person.
- To pick up your child, go to his/her classroom and sign out.
- It is VERY IMPORTANT that you sign in and sign out daily for the safety and security of your child.
Health and Safety Policies
- Families may provide a drink container refilled with fresh water daily.
- We encourage you to provide nutritious lunch and snacks from home.
- Children need to wear footwear that allows them to run and play safely. No high heels for girls. Covered shoes/sandals with back straps are required on excursions.
- Please keep all medications at home. Teachers are not allowed to administer medications of any kind.
- Only first aid treatment can be given by the preschool staff. Wounds requiring further treatment must be cared for at home or by the family physician.
- No sick child should be sent to school. Teachers will isolate sick children and contact parents for pick-up.
- MCCP has a "24 Hour Rule." For the health of your child and others, please remember that your child must be free of fever, diarrhea, and vomiting for at least 24 hours before they can return to school.
- The preschool should be informed the first day of absence. Communicable disease especially should be reported. A child absent from school due to communicable disease will be readmitted only with a doctor’s certificate.
Emergency Care
In case of serious illness, injury or accident during school hours, every effort will be made to contact parents. If this is not possible, and the child needs immediate medical attention, the child’s physician will be called.
If the child’s physician cannot be contacted, Makiki Christian Church Preschool will select a physician as deemed necessary. Please keep emergency information form up-to-date by notifying the Preschool Director of any changes.
Conferences
A parent-teacher conference will be scheduled to discuss the child’s progress and growth. Parents are encouraged to arrange additional conferences as needed. A convenient time to call is during the children’s naptime.
A written student report is also given at the midpoint of the school year.
Birthdays and Other Celebrations
Birthdays may be celebrated in school if the teacher is informed in advance. Because we want to teach children good nutrition, we encourage parents to send healthy snacks. Cakes and other sugary treats are discouraged. Please check with your child’s teacher for suggestions or should you want to do anything different.
