In 1931, The Rev. Okumura...

and Architect Hego Fuchino embarked to build a church to resemble Kochi Castle as a symbol of protection and peace. The two golden dolphins atop the castle tower were Christian symbols used in feudal Japan just as the fish was used as a symbol of Christianiity during the days of the Holy Roman Empire.
